序

序
A concise guide for the trainee in internal medicine on how to treat patients on the ward who develop life-threatening emergencies, particularly involving organ support.
Enables the reader to identify critically ill and deteriorating patients sooner, thus improving outcome.
Does not focus on how disease is treated in the ITU, but on the important practicalities for the trainee on the medical ward, such as how to fluid resuscitate, when to insert cvp lines, when to call ITU etc.
Covers an area seen as increasing important for the MRCP and other postgraduate exams.
Deals with important areas such as inotropic support, blood gas analysis and the ethics of treating the critically ill, which are poorly covered in terms of educational material at this level.
